A classic. Not too much to say, but it was good. I like the one about the tree and the rose bush.
Another reread has come and gone, and this book maintains its status as an example of superb children’s poetry, in my humble opinion. With a few exceptions, the collection holds up remarkably well.
When I think of where my love of poetry began, this book is one of, if not the most, clear origin points. I spent countless hours reading and reciting many of these poems, between school elocution contests and my own obsessive tendencies, then even more hours crafting knock-off Shel Silverstein poetry, complete with matching disturbing doodles.
I will always have such fond memories of poems like “Hammock” and “Bear in There” (I can’t help but slip into full elocution-mode when I read the second one), and I am even more impressed as an adult with old favorites like “Rock ‘N ’Roll Band,” “The Little Boy and the Old Man,” and “Ations”. And then there are those like “Cloony the Clown” that I have a newfound respect for all these years later.
This book continues to hold a special place in my heart and remains an iconic masterpiece of children’s poetry.

As I've mentioned, my wife has been enlightening by reading me Shel Silverstein. While I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as Where the Sidewalk Ends, it's still wonderfully playful and subversive and fun.
