This was fantastic. Filled with conspiracy, wit, and romance. My only qualm is the romance. It was very well done but unfortunately not developed enough. I needed a few more pages, because the ending between Percy and Marguerite was very rushed. However, besides that I loved this story.

I will give this book credit for being one of those required reads in middle school that sparked my love for reading. It's a fun whimsical tale of adventure a hero who uses an array of disguises and identities to save lives. I revisited it recently and obviously being much older it does seem a bit less impressive than on that of my 11-12 year old self.

I had a really hard time finding the beauty and poetry in this novel. Unlike Phantom of the Opera or Hunchback, I couldn't get absorbed or lost in the classic French style. It was too convoluted and wordy; the words got in the way of the plot, which is never a good way to go.
