I went into this knowing how much this book divides people in their opinions, but I wanted to give this a go with as much of an open mind as possible…and I really loved it!

Yes, this doesn’t really do anything new in the sci-fi genre (I’m not hugely read up on sci-fi but even this felt familiar, reminding me a bit of the TV show Humans) but the magic behind this book is the way the author captures the intricacies of human interaction, and the charm of Klara. She is truly a fabulous MC, having this quiet, kind innocence that warms your heart.

I did feel the ending was a bit flat, though the end scene really had me 💔

DNF at 32%.

I loved ‘Never Let Me Go’, and was looking forward to reading this book, but I struggled through the little bit I did read. The very beginning isn’t bad, when Klara’s in the store, but once she goes to live with Josie, things become annoyingly vague and confusing.

Now, I get when authors choose to be vague and mysterious with their settings, and done correctly, it can really add to the story. Here though, I just felt in a constant state of, ‘Ok, WHAT is going on? What does that mean? What is she trying to tell us?’.

A book is no fun when you feel lost and confused the whole time you’re reading, so for that reason, I decided to move on. I ended up reading the entire plot on Wikipedia, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.
