The plot in this book was a bit more complex than the first book of the series. The relationship between Adin and Donte is evolving, but it is starting to feel a bit toxic to me. Adin is a bit bratty and Donte is a bit arrogant. The side characters are becoming more interesting though. I would like to get to know Bran and Edward better.

Once again, I enjoyed the narrator's voice, but his French pronunciation's drove me crazy. I speak a bit of French. I cringe when people use American pronunciations on French words.

I am invested. I need to know what happens in the next book. This book had a resolution, but it left some questions that I need answered.

I loved the first Notturno book, and didn't know there was going to be a second one until a little bit ago, then when I finally had it I delayed in reading it thinking, what could happen in this one? How can it compare with how good the first one was? Well, I was surprised and delighted to read and find that it could compare and exceed the first book!

In this second installment of the incredible talented Z.A. Maxfield's Notturno series, we have the ever impulsive Adin being mistaken of the identity of someone else, which leads him to the sale of an underage boy named Bran.

Adin can't leave the boy, so he takes advantage of the mistaken identity to rescue the boy and take him to the authorities. But all to soon it becomes clear that while Bran may be under age he is not an ordinary boy.
Of course protecting this boy isn't going to go well, and soon it becomes clear that unless Adin finds out who wants the boy and why he was being sold in the first place that it inst safe for either of them.

So, he enlists the help of his boyfriend Dante, but his impulsiveness in this situation just confirms Dante's feelings of his fragile human nature and he will not be happy until Adin consents to become immortal.

I loved this one and was happy to learn there will be a third.

The second part of The Hours Trilogy, while good, did not live up to the sheer romanticism of part one - [b:Notturno|6564154|Notturno (The Hours Trilogy #1)|Z.A. Maxfield|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1245983162s/6564154.jpg|6757064]. But then, Notturno grabbed me heart and soul...definitely difficult to match!

That doesn't make Vigil a bad book. No, No, No! But it is different. Adin and Donte are still trying to make their relationship work in spite of many ups and downs. And Adin rescues a young teen, Bran, who doesn't know exactly who - or what- he is. This book establishes a transition for Adin and Donte and I'm looking forward to part three!

At this point, the only reason it is not 5 stars is due to the cover. I realize that the cover for Notturno was completely unrealistic to compete with (it is an unbelievable thing of beauty), but...oh whatever. This sequel took me by surprise. I did not know what to expect going in and I was happy and very shocked by the ending - fooled as they say and I was not the only one fooled! My solution minded brain took one route and ZAM took a completely different one. None of this is bad, in fact I LOVE being surprised. This had all of the arrogant speaking and sarcastic whit of Adin along with all of the other things we came to love in Notturno. Highly recommend, especially if you liked the first one.

There is an occasional sex scene in this installment, but don't look for the continuation of the romance. Most of the story is mystery/suspense: saving a kidnapped boy, finding out his identity and trying to stay a step ahead of the bad guys. Pretty much all the issues in the book remain unresolved, with a couple of fresh ones thrown in at the end. We must. have. book. three! Soon!
