This was a solid collection of poems that played with form and pop culture in really interesting ways. I’d recommend this collection to anyone, but especially to people of color and queer folks!!

Picked up this book after listening to Brookins’s podcast episode of Dear Schuyler. This is a powerful collection of poetry, and I loved how both Brookins’s queer/transness and blackness were so present in each piece.

Freedom House is such a phenomenal poetry collection that balances pressing themes of transphobia, anti-Blackness, gentrification, and systemic oppression in the south/Texas with hope, humor, and the author’s imagining of a future in which we’re all free. This is simultaneously a collection that is evergreen and a response to the current political times that we exist in today.
