Fabulous. I loved the description of Constance shopping in the supermarket on Christmas Eve. Everyone in the story is living their own life but also living as part of a family that shapes their personalities and relationships.

I liked the format of this book, with the different characters being shown in their individual lives, then brought together as a family - separate yet together. Anne Enright's books are easy to read, but full of meatiness and interesting characters.

Gorgeously written and full of wisdom, but I disliked each and every one of the characters, and they were so mean to each other and themselves that the book felt like it left a nasty film over everything.
Dysfunctional family comes home for the holidays. Enright uses an interesting device to develop her characters here --each chapter in part one focuses on a different sibling about a decade apart from the 80s forward, and then part two has them gathering at their mother's house on the western coast of Ireland for Christmas as she is thinking of selling off the family homestead.
3rd book finished today...!! Surprised ad anyone I actually finished this book club pick. As usual, it won the Man Booker so it wasn't that great. But once you got into it, it was oddly rhythmic and I read almost 250 pages in one sitting...
This novel was interesting in how it showed a complicated family relationship, I liked how each chapter showed the different lives of each of the adult children. The description of the Irish country was good too.
Although the story didn't stand out to me and was a bit slow at times.
