Had expected a great book. Was very dull. Neither the story nor any character was engaging.

Very readable (read over two days), this was interesting because there was no one protagonist - instead we are given an insight into the thoughts and lives of all the main characters.

It reads fairly slowly, and I didn't really like anyone in it - there are a number of well drawn characters in the book, but they range from self-centred and deeply unpleasant to merely a bit difficult.

I really wanted to like it. I love stories told from multiple points of view and a good intergenerational family drama, all elements of this story of an Irish family. I found some of the sibling storylines compelling, but others very boring. I also didn’t need this to attempt to be fancy literary fiction, which just made it feel convoluted and less effective emotionally for me.

Extremely well written and fleshed out. Narrative turns taken were not contrived.
