The writing was strong but I didn't find it very compelling- I felt like I didn't know enough about the characters, that we only learned snippets from their lives, instead of a full and complete picture.
Anne Enright is so gifted — there are phrases in this novel that are so beautiful, touching, funny, startling — that it didn’t even matter to me what she was writing about. But the story itself is also beautiful, touching, funny and startling. I look forward to reading more by her.
