Always loved historical fiction and this one did not disappoint. Loved the multiple narratives from the protagonists and secondary characters. The characters were beautifully written and the interactions and setup was just overall well done. Loved, loved, loved it

It’s been a long time since a grown up book gripped me like this fabulous piece of historical fiction managed to do. I found myself actually caring about the main characters, both American and German. I was nervous for them at times, elated at others. I read this over three days and didn’t want to do anything else.

I hope they make a movie of it...!

This is not historical fiction but rather fantasy. Young Americans who are brave dolts saved by high ranking Nazi who turn on Hitler after having directed the torture of at least scores. (As consolation one savior is a french resistance leader.) I read quite recently that the overwhelming majority of high ranking Nazis were true believers to the end with hundreds committing suicide in the last days. No, not an historical novel but a contribution to the myth of the good German. Of course there were some but few who survived.
