I think it’s a 4 star… but what the heck happened? Willow had a mission! ONE THING she needed to accomplish. She didn’t get into all the details, but with her badass witch powers I’m sure it would have come to fruition. Except the headmaster (centuries old man trapped in a young body and feeding like a vampire) got in her way and they started banging. I don’t get it. He’s a THOUSAND years old, you couldn’t find someone your own age?? And what about the mission?? What about saving the other witches?! Geezus. Talk about getting side tracked.

Chilling adventures of Sabrina vibes but make it darker and add a romance with a vampire like immortal? Really enjoyed the magic school setting of this and that ending was everything!

A dark, angsty, gothic sort of romance.

There were several moments where it felt like the story was kept taking leaps forwards rather fleshing things out more.
Some examples of the questions that still bother me :
- How could her mother hide from  coven for so long, successfully? Surely she would have needed help.

- Given that her dad had no magic, and her mother did, I have no idea why the FMC implied that she hid her dad’s poor treatment to protect her mom from him.
Why did her parents split? What was their relationship? It seems important to understanding their family dynamics.

  - I feel like a lot of vague statements were made about the FMC and her dad’s relationship being less than loving ( and in fact very cruel), but then we get hints of him being abusive too. That part of the story deserved a bit more explanation in my opinion.

- what happened to Ash? I feel conflicted by how little time the FMC spends actually trying to check on him unless he is literally in the room, and yet his is frequently referred as a key motivator for her.

The twist didn’t surprise me, as there were more than enough hints provided.  That didn’t bother me, but I know some readers prefer a surprise. Overall I’m glad I can dive straight into book two, as I’m Really, really, hoping MMC gets a comeuppance for how terrible his actions were and grovels.
