The Coven

Imagine Twilight met The Craft and throw in a bunch of witchy politics— The Coven is what you get!

The book includes a fairly complex and enchanting world of witches and an interesting twist on vampires. With a powerful FMC, a MMC with ‘touch her and die vibes, betrayal, and romance combined to create an unputdownable story.

Whilst there is romance, the spicy scenes are minimal, but what the book lacks in smut, makes up for with a gripping plot and tension, keeping you on edge with every twist and turn and a plot twist that you don’t see coming! The book starts slow but by the end I could not put it down!

If you’re into witches, love triangles, and twists that keep you guessing, this one is definitely worth adding to your reading list!

Willow has been moulded by her father to become the ultimate tool to gain his revenge on the Coven and Coventry alike. After the death of her mother, she is whisked away to a university/academy in which she is meant to learn to control and wield her magic- but secretly, she plans to seduce and undo the ages old vampire headmaster and the school itself.
We don't see her learning about her magic overly much- considering she lived in isolation with her mother and brother and they hid magic from said brother, she already seemed to know everything. Plus, her university comes with a school-girl-fetish uniform to highlight her mid sized figure, that is specifically mentioned two or three times throughout the book in random info dumps.
I would have liked to explore the composition and characters that made up The Coventry more throughly- I thought they were an interesting concept. I would have also liked to have seen a little more of the world beyond Willows' all consuming lust for Headmaster. We briefly see her father, who is stereotypically horrendous and abusive and I spotted the twist at the end fairly early on in her relationship with Gray.
Billed as a 'gothic, dark-academia, paranormal romance' there are elements needing trigger warnings in line with your traditional vampire, dark romance stories. I didn't really understand the whole point of the Reapings beyond a spicy scene that questions consent, nor how it would actually work between other university students and the vessels- it was uncomfortable and not very sexy at all considering the FMC was having a panic attack at the time.
Closes on a cliffhanger hanger involving a seal, demons and a twist (aforementioned).

Updated on re-read:
Not sure what I was thinking when I initially read this. It must have just been my vibe back then.

On re-read, not a big fan. Felt like this book needed a lot more time in the draft stage to figure out how the plot was going to work together and to figure out how to build the fantasy world better.
Also, not a fan of the MMC.

I definitely enjoyed the book and finished it in almost one sitting. However, I couldn't shake off the feeling of everything feeling familiar and I believe the author got a lot of inspiration from 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'. So a lot was predictable.
If you are expecting a world building and complex book - that's not for you. If you are looking for light entertainment with some dark themes - go for it!
To me this felt like a book spin off of Sabrina and I enjoyed it as long as you approach the book with open mind :)

I went into this book as a palate cleanser, a nice easy read to reset myself from all the other rando things I’ve been reading. But this one took a turn that I really didn’t see coming.. and I’m not exactly mad at it
