A quick and depressive literary noir that works as a less-hopeful, if that's possible, companion to In a Lonely Place. I can't quite give this a full five stars, as it's a bit too chauvinistic in its perspective to fully love, but that is still befitting its setting and tone-- it does work as a dissection of a femme fatale/naive waif archetype divide of the noir genre, but its handling of psychological analysis is a bit rough.

Super short book with quite an enjoyable setting. I really enjoyed the development of the characters' personalities, and how power shifts between them as the story goes on (although it maybe lost its finesse towards the end). The introduction of a good dose of paranoia in the latter half is always a theme I enjoy in a book!

Not life-changing but it's an interesting little window of a story.
