I love the absurdity of it all. There wasn’t a single moment that I knew what was going on & I loved it. Didn’t have the best time since i was on edge for most of the book just waiting for an explanation about what was going on. But I really liked the strange concepts that were explored like a restaurant that charges by time and a homeless shelter that requires reservations. I also just loved the art style so yea.

Watson’s mix of simple cartoonish art and dark, sometimes macabre, comedy come together to create the beautifully simple and delightful “The Book Store”. At many points, the story of Fretwell is relatable, how his world seems totally against him and how, no matter where he goes, people don’t respect him enough to even get him the right drink. Although the ending could have been funnier or sadder, I think that this book is a very special piece of cartoon comics.

A delightful little read. Bookish vibes + unresolved murder mystery :)

An entertaining, darkly humorous, Kafkaesque graphic novel about a writer on a book tour that goes horribly awry.
