Great start to a new series by Iggulden. The characters of Derry Brewer and Margaret were the most fun to follow. Other characters fell flat, but I continue to love the way Iggulden weaves an interesting narrative with historical events and places.

Historical fiction is much like fantasy. Either really good or really bad. This book, for better or worse, is an exception. Right in the middle. I absolutely love Mr Iggulden's books and the way he writes. I really enjoyed Margaret of Anjou and the plot surrounding her. Derry Brewer was a welcome addition to the story. I did not know much about this time period so it was very fun to read and learn about it. My two problems were 1. The other plots were ho hum and 2. Battle scenes I find a little boring, and the battle scenes were long and descriptive in this book. I will probably move on in the series, but not in the very near future.

Found this one a bit arduous to get through. The inconsistencies in royal styles and titles used was a little frustrating. Margaret's chapters were most enjoyable.

Despite being one of my favourite periods of history to read about, I found this incredibly slow and tedious. None of the characters felt developed. Will not continue the series.

Incredibly, graphically violent in some places, which is why it wasn't a four-star book for me. I would love to finish the series because this is a time period I know virtually nothing about and I overall enjoy Iggulden's storytelling, but I'm not sure whether I will be able to bring myself to do it knowing how graphic the violence will be.

War of the Roses Round 2! Liked this one better than Cecily - it covers a shorter span and has more perspective characters, plus the cartoonishly villainous Yorks were quite funny. It's not exactly married to historical accuracy, has slightly weird chaptering divisions and I don't love all the characters but it's basically a fun read. Will we ever find out who (or what) was the titular Stormbird?
