When we are introduced to Lucas and Evelyn in Janie Crouch’s Code Name: Virgo, I knew I had to read their story. Just reading the few snippets in Virgo, it was easily seen there was a connection between Lucas and Evelyn. It was also noticeable that Evelyn was running from something. When we finally get the answers to what she was running from, I was heartbroken and horrified by all that she had endured, but also in awe of her bravery. I was rooting for her to find her safe place and to be able to finally stop running. It was almost like fate that she would end up at the Resting Warrior Ranch, a place created to allow people to heal, and Lucas Everett, who instantly felt protective over her. Lucas, along with the other former Navy Seals, also had demons they were fighting, but the ingrained instinct to protect was still very strong. Lucas knew right away how terrified Evelyn was, and as much as he wanted to immediately fix whatever she was scared of, he knew he had to be gentle and take it slow. The amount of patience and care he took with Evelyn was so swoon-worthy. And I loved how everyone embraced her and took her under their wing.
This was a wonderful start to what is looking like a great series.

More of a thriller than expected but would have liked to have more relationship building between the two characters, if I'm being honest. It was plot driven and kind of an instant like relationship... I wanted more time with them and fun. But that's jut my preference :)

This hot suspenseful romance keeps you enthralled from the first sentence to the last. It is filled with smart funny and wildly appealing characters along with one dark scary one. The slow ratcheting up of the suspense and danger was done perfectly and by the time the final confrontation occurred I was on the edge of my seat. Evelyn has been running from a dangerous powerful man for four years but he keeps finding her. She and fear are constant companions. Lucas and his friends, all former SEALS, run a therapeutic ranch. Lucas has his own past demons. When Evelyn inquires about a job on the ranch, Lucas is immediately drawn to her and to helping her. The suspenseful tale of Evelyn and Lucas will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, gasping, cringing, teeth gritting, nail biting, and cheering. The book has a little bit of everything just like you would expect from romantic suspense - sweet moments, strong bonds, sexy times, real life issues, imperfect characters, dangerous moments, mystery, uber protective men, secrets, painful pasts, evil actors, and so much love. The author did a fantastic job balancing the romance with the suspense. The story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I will definitely be reading more in this series.
