Book Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“We are always in a hurry to be happy...; for when we have suffered a long time, we have great difficulty in believing in good fortune.” -Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo.

This was one of the few classics that I have read that had lived up to the hype. The Count of Monte Cristo was a grand sprawling epic of revenge. It felt like the parent of every revenge story, but yet felt like one of the most diverse and fresh. Alexandre Dumas's writing is beautiful, complex, and simple to understand.

The novel was surprisingly gory and more fucked up than I was expecting. Monte Cristo was a cinematic marvel that makes me doubt that it can be accurately adapted.

Reading The Count of Monte Cristo made me love and respect the great revenge stories that I already loved even more. With works such as Park Choon-Wook’s Oldboy & Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, The Last of Us: Part Two, and The Millennium trilogy by Steig Larrson; it was hard to imagine what entertainment would be like without the existence of The Count of Monte Cristo.
