One of those books where it doesn’t even matter how well-written it is (and it is). A story like this tells itself. The head of Russia’s anti-doping lab, and mastermind of its cheating schemes over decades, is first turned on by, and then turns whistleblower on, the system he helped build. The book was written from witness protection and if it was fictional you would call it far-fetched. Read this book if you have any interest in sports ethics, Russia, or just crazy stories.

This is very well written. I would say the highlight for me were his unconventional views on doping. I don’t really believe in clean sport anymore, so getting an insight into what’s going on behind the scenes was purely interesting and the alternative views were cool food for thought.

This was written by the former head of Russia's national anti-doping laboratory and exposes the state-run doping program in Russia.  He now lives in witness protection.

Am super interested in Russia and doping, have watched Ikarus, so it's a no brainer for me.

Rodchenkov is certainly not an anti-doping guy by any means, even in the book's epilogue this much is clear. So I'm wondering what made him spill the beans on Russia's doping cheating (in which he was one of the masterminds) so soon after coming to US?

Don't expect any moral or ethical pondering about his involvement. This is simply a "this is what happened" book. As I've learnt, it's okay to steal in Russia as long as it's not too much and not from wrong people.

I love the way Rodchenkov really unpacked the role that the state-sponsored scheme played in Russian culture, and vice versa. This was, unsurprisingly, a brilliant analysis of the intricacies of the Russian doping scandal and how it came to be, with some thoughtful and somewhat refreshing takes on doping and doping control. I have studied the Russian doping scandal and seen the documentary Icarus several times and I didn’t feel there was a lot of new information in here, but it was insightful to read it from Rodchenkov himself, in his own words.
