Very cute. Honestly it’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but with a book as the prize and adults playing instead of children. But it’s a sweet book and I really liked it.

I honestly think I would have liked this book better if I didn’t listen to it - I found the narrator’s voice annoying, especially when she did the British accent for Hugo’s voice. The story itself was fine, but nothing too memorable. Solid three stars.

For everyone who had a favorite author as a kid, this book explores the relationships with the books that defined us. A wonderful story that had me turning every page eagerly.

A light, straightforward read, best read without over-thinking it.

The concept was similar to "And Then There Were None" (minus the murder mystery). The pace to get the main character to the island was excruciatingly slow though.

I did find it a bit annoying that every character had a traumatic backstory. My sympathy for the characters dried up well before I was done reading.

And as a former foster parent, I thought the author did her research well. Her foster care details were realistic. However, the main character calling herself a foster child's mother just because she wanted to adopt him was over the top. In real life, that's just not done. In the story, it reeked of obsession and insecurity; it felt like Lucy needed to adopt him more for her sake than for his.

Really sweet story, seems like it’s targeted at a slightly younger audience, but I appreciate a feel good story where everyone gets their wish in the end

This was such a lovely book. I wish I could explain why I liked it so much, but it's really more of a feeling.
