Stephenie Meyer knows how to write a paranormal romance that the reader can't put down. I appreciate the unique love story that she created for this novel. Meyer was trying to get the reader to sympathize with the alien parasite called Wanda; however, I never really got to that point. I didn't hate Wanda, because Meyer did an excellent job of showing that this particular alien was compassionate and hadn't asked to be placed inside Melanie's body. But despite how much I liked Wanda, I still continued to side with the humans who believed that alien parasites were wrongfully taking over human bodies and killing them. After reading 600 pages of Wanda being inside Melanie's head, I felt like she was in my own head and I couldn't wait to get her out! I just wanted Melanie to get her body back so that she could be with Jared, but instead the ending was all about Wanda getting a new body and living happily ever after with Ian. I'm glad for Wanda and Ian, they both deserve a happy ending, and Meyer briefly mentions that Jared and Melanie were back together, but it wasn't the epic reunion for the two humans that I had been waiting for the entire novel. I can't really complain because it only makes sense that the ending be all about Wanda, considering the entire story is told from her/its point of view. The novel was well written, other than Meyer's over-use of the word "chagrin" (which she does in all 4 Twilight books as well and it drives me up a wall), and the story was well crafted. "The Host" was heart-wrenching and suspenseful and I enjoyed reading it.
