Reverie - Vera Atieno

Thank you @veraslittlepiece for reaching out and
allowing me to review your work.
"Reverie is a debut poetry collection exploring themes
of love, nature and earth, self-discovery and
acceptance, ends and beginnings and, leaning on
dreams and fantasies. The book is divided into four
chapters: Cosmos, Musing, Misgivings and Soft Spot-
each an experience of its own
Even though this book was a "short read", I really tried
to take my time and give each piece the moment it
deserved. I loved the way the book flowed, each poem
guiding you to the next. Each section building towards
the other. Beautifully orchestrated.
The words were heartfelt and very eloquently written.
I added one of my favorites so you can take a sneak
peak!
Reverie is available on Kindle and Amazon. Please

What a beautiful, well-written and put together collection. I am no genius or professional when it comes to poetry, but you don’t have to be an aficionado to feel the emotion that these poems elicit.

My personal favorite section was the third, “Misgivings.”

Here’s a beautiful first stanza of one of my favorite poems from Reverie,

A Most Welcome End

“At last, the bomb stopped ticking, arriving its doom.
In the fire went the memories and the reverie, only a void left behind..”

I encourage you to do what I did and read a couple poems each day. There’s a good chance that at least one will read like a horoscope and be exactly what you need to hear. As far as poetry goes, this deserves all the stars.

Disclaimer: the author/poet kindly gifted me a copy of this poetry collection in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Reverie is a poetry collection split into four sections. It explores various themes that everyone can relate with, such as grief, love, and hope.

I will admit that I didn't understand all of the poems on a very deep level - but I will also admit that I flew through this one sitting, and that I will probably have a much better understanding and appreciation for the work once I sit down and take my time with each piece. Nonetheless, there were a few poems that stood out to me and that I found very relatable, even upon first read.

This was a very pleasant reading experience. The poems had a similar tone to them, so it truly felt like each poem was a glimpse into someone's life. It is evident that each word was chosen with care, and there are also beautiful illustrations throughout, which added another level of depth to the collection. I would certainly recommend this to both poetry lovers and those wanting to try poetry for the first time.

What a powerful and moving debut by Vera Antineo!

I received this poetry collection as an ARC from the author about a month ago but due to personal reasons, I couldn't deliver my review and opinions on her amazing work on time. I have little regret about that but I am so glad I got to read this book because it made me feel.

The book is divided into four chapters; Cosmos, Musings, Misgivings and Soft Spot. I will be honest, I wasn't really feeling the vibe in the first part and it was hard for me to understand, to relate. Poetry is all about feeling and I was not getting that but Musings and Misgivings - these two chapters made me stop and think. Feel. Remember how it felt.

Soft Spot chapter seemed like an epilogue version of the book and it was kind of bittersweet but I have a personal soft spot for the two chapters in the middle. I have so many bookmarked poems from them on my phone and I'll be quoting them way too often whenever I can.

Poetry collections are not something I usually gravitate towards. But when the author Vera Atieno reached out to me to review it, I was drawn to her description of what the poems are about. Surprise, surprise, I devoured this book. Be warned though, some of them are pretty dark.

The book is divided into chapters, they are titled Cosmos, Musing, Misgiving and Soft Spot. I really liked that, because it helped give me direction the poems were going in.

"𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤
𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲'𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐲"

I really enjoyed Vera's writing, and a lot of the poems were thought provoking for me. Some of my favorite poems were "See You Again, Summer", "Nightly", "My Borrowed Hand" and "One Deed Done". You will also find some lovely illustrations scattered throughout the book.

These poems explore themes of love, nature, self-discovery, depression, ends and beginnings, and the experience of leaning on dreams and fantasies. As I stated before, some of these poems may be very dark for you. So jusy be cautious if any of the poem themes are triggering for you.
