Too slowly paced in the beginning to make the plot intriguing, too little characterization in the beginning to make the characters likeable or interesting. Not the book for me.

Cool way to tell a story with narrators switching between two family members and two times/locations. Read this fast, but wasn’t super impressed with the resolution- a bit predictable.

I kind of feel like if you asked me why happened in this book, I’m not sure I could tell you. There wants a ton of plot until the last 25%. But I really liked the book for some reason. The author is a great writer and the characters were really well done. I also liked how part of the story was set in 1928 LA, which I know nothing about.
