Idk why this man got all mad at her when she’s literally trying to survive. Also how is it better that she’s a bastard than a maid? 😭 but at the same time love should transcend class/wealth. The book is cute for what it is.

I feel quite conflicted about this book. The last section was enjoyable but the child neglect/abuse and attempted SA at the beginning set a bad taste in my mouth that lingered through my entire reading. Add on top the abuse of power from Benedict towards Sophie throughout the novel was 😬😬😬

I couldn’t love Violet Bridgerton any more if I tried. She’s a perfect scheming angel and I refuse to accept any criticism of her. Likewise with Sophie. She carried the weight of childhood trauma on her shoulders with grace and managed to come out on top, as she deserves!

I will however accept criticism about Benedict. He saves Sophie from being raped by three men only to manipulate and blackmail her into staying by his side- either as his mistress or a servant in his mother’s household. Men suck.

Even though Cinderella retellings were already cliche when the book was written, I’ll still forgive it. It’s hard not to be a sucker for the underdog getting their magical night out and eventually getting their flowers. And I’m absolutely dying to dive into Colin’s story because I know that boy’s got some groveling to do!

This is the second Bridgerton book I read in as many days, make of that what you will.

Anyways! This is basically Cinderella and there’s absolutely nothing wrong about that. If you loved Cinderella growing up, and wanted it to be 350 pages long, a tasteful amount of smutty and just so beautifully angsty them this is the book for you - it certainly was the book for me.

I don’t have a lot of smart things to say about it (the fact that it’s about 2:30am doesn’t help) but Benedict is a good sibling and dangerously close to dethroning Colin from the “best sibling” spot, but I still have many books left in this series so I’ll hold my final judgment. Sophie, however, is an amazing main character. I’ve loved her from page one, she’s funny, magnetic, smart and everything about her character is beautifully written. Benedict can be oblivious at times but it works for the book and for what his development is by the end of it, and the banter is just so wonderful to read I’ve just finished the book and already miss it.

Colin might still be my favorite Bridgerton but Sophie and Benedict definitely are mu favorite couple (at least of the ones I’ve read).
