I'd like to give this a 3.5 rating. I like this book. But I don't know if I'm prepared to put the word "really" in front of that statement.
I first met Liska and Kovac when I picked up the audiobook "The 9th Girl," from my library so my introduction to them was out of the series' sequence. However, that did not deter me from starting at the beginning for these books can stand alone quite well.
I took to the duo right away. And this story was no different. It's always fun to be with characters who make you laugh, the constant back-and-forth bickering and zings, the off-the-wall yet somehow fitting portrayal of these so-called "cops" are done right....because they are also revealed as real beings, not just the "ones in blue" with a badge and a gun. The reason for my resistance on the word "really" stems from the revelation of "who-dun-it." I thought it a little far-fetched. That being said: Once that part was established, the way things were played out from there was thrilling and incredibly satisfying, as if I'm watching a good movie and I can't take my eyes off the screen as I stuff huge amounts of popcorn into my mouth, with bits dropping here and there, scared to miss ANYTHING.
I will say, I think as I continue to read about this fine pair and all their supporting characters, I just might get my "really" back...and then some.

This is like one long episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and CSI combined with a love story of sort. I don't usually read these types of books but when I do, I like them to be full-on what they promise to be and this one was. When I'm next in the mood for a walk on the seamier side, I'll pick up another Tami Hoag paperback.

I thought I knew who it was and I was dead wrong (lol)
This book was intense, even more so at the end. I really thought I had the right murderer. I really did. I had no clue, you won't either. I can almost guarantee it. A good read if you're looking for a suspense, serial killer , thriller type of novel.

Loving this series (Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska); playing catchup with the earlier ones, as have to read all of them! Tami knows how to mix killer wit and humor, with her crimes. Currently traveling; Review to follow.
Holy crap...... I couldn't put this book down. Read 700 pages today to finish it!
Way too long. I've enjoyed the others by Hoag, she definitely improved in later books in the series

I’m blown away by this! Deer Lake series doesn’t compare to this one book alone for me. The characters? I loved them all. I found myself busting out laughing at their dialogue in situations. The graphic depiction of the crimes scenes were up my alley. Along with the unhealthy mental issues that at times I found myself relating to.
Peter’s turmoil was a mystery to try and unravel but when it came down to it.. poor man.
My freaking heart hurt for little Angie towards the end and everything she had to endure. Tami Hoag made me want to reach into this book and save her.
Kate as a female character was so damn strong and fearless in the face of evil. A character I won’t be forgetting any time soon.
The villain(s) in this book made me recoil in disgust. Especially the makeshift art pieces that Fine made herself. Shivers..
Great freaking book and it was so fun! Though I do have one complaint

"Kate Conlan, ex-FBI agent turned advocate, finds herself protecting a teenage runaway who has witnessed the latest murder by the "Cremator", a serial killer who burns women alive. However, the witness isn't talking and Kate can't tell if the witness is just reluctant, or something more sinister." (From Amazon)
Simply a great romantic suspense.
