Unnecessary Assault Took Me Out of the Story
I want to start by saying I was very aware of the trigger and content warnings for the book. When authors include these scenes, I typically don’t have an issue as long as they are pivotal to the story.
However, the repeated assault of Larkin provided absolutely nothing to the plot. His torture and Jade’s anger would have been just as impactful without including these scenes. Not only did they not contribute to the plot, but two SERIAL SEXUAL ASSAULTS were essentially brushed over once he was rescued.
I also had a difficult time believing Jade and Larkin were in love. For a majority of their “relationship”, the only time Larkin willingly participates is when he’s drugged by Jade. If the story was longer and there was more development of Larkin’s feelings, it would have been more compelling to believe them as a couple.
Overall, the concept of the story and the world building kept me interested enough to finish the book. However, the unnecessary r*ape and lack of sober relationship development left a lot to be desired.

I didn’t go into this with high expectations, but was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it.
The selling point of a book like this is obviously going to be the sex, but it had a pretty decent story, too. A bit generic, but I enjoyed it. I loved that the dragon character felt like a proper dragon, and not just a human with wings and horns. The romance started out quite dark but ended up being very sweet, and had just the right amount of push and pull.
You’ll want to heed the warnings - there’s a lot of graphic noncon, between both the main couple and others.

Bad bad bad.
The characters are one dimensional. The violence does nothing to move the story forward. It’s just there and awful for no reason.
Larkin is literally too stupid to live. Jade’s only personality trait is amorous.
It’s bad. So bad.
