This book was filled with plot twists, some expected and anothers not. I overall enjoyed the book, the writing style was very fluid and gave space to the story by not standing out. It genuinely felt like I was watching a movie. If you like a good con story I would recommend.

4.5 Loved the book but the ending was a little meh for me.

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars here. On the one hand, it was pretty predictable - even most of the twists followed a pattern that was clear from the start. But on the other hand, it was just a good classic semi-gothic mystery/suspense novel where things aren’t quite what they seem on the surface (even though, again, that’s generally clear right up front). I think if I had gone into it expecting that I’d have been more satisfied, but I expect so much more deep human character study and beautiful wordsmithing from Janelle Brown and this wasn’t quite that.

Although I was able to figure out what was going to happen (with the exception of one surprise), I still found myself enjoying listening to this book on Audible.

set in my hometown so automatically i like

This was really good. The story was really well written and had me guessing on the edge of my seat until the end! Lying and con artists are always going to be a trigger for me, I'd imagine for the rest of my life, after my last relationship, so that wasn't the best. But it was 100% accurate!

I loved this book and the way so many themes intertwine in this story. I especially liked the main character, Nina. Things like family relationships, friendships, social media, and self esteem all crisscross through the book. This book is not going to change your life but if you're looking for a good, easy flowing, and interesting read, then I recommend this. I had many highlights of some noteworthy things to think about, especially in regards to social media.
