Hardest thing to rate this book, because it’s absolutely nauseating from one hand, but from another hand it does deal with abuse that happens to children in messed up families. (The other nauseating part was the twist, that is really hard not to go ‘wtf did I just read’ over, because it’s… 🫣😬)

For starters: this story needs a flashing warning sign for all of its content, it’s one of the darkest books I’ve ever read. It was engaging and once again, the writing was so beautifully done, that that in itself is 5 star. A lot of things are getting repeated over and over, and there is a valid reason why this book got controversial reviews on the heavy themes.

The end twist and the end itself was almost too rushed compared to the rest of the book that was slow paced, proper Feeney style, but the real problem, I think, for me was that it was out of this world to the point that it broke the immersion as well.

I’m not sure if I could’ve read this as is, I listened the audiobook, and Stephanie Racine once again made it sound perfect with her excellent voice acting.

I’m still giving it 4 stars, because although extremely dark, it managed to keep my attention and I value great writing, but **I don’t think I’d recommend this book to read.**

Wow this book had so much to it and it’s like guessing things along the way and then it flips. I love Alice’s writing style when you think you have it all figured out but then things are revealed and then bits click into place and the parts you’ve read have a whole new meaning.
I loved the split timeline between Aimee as and adult and then as a child and piecing together how what happened as a child plays a part in how she is as an adult.
I did find a bit odd towards the end but still the twists and revels just made it.

I only gave two stars because I did not figure out the twist on my own.
