This book had so much potential but, for me, it just never seemed as thrilling as it could have been.

Set in the hot South in a neighbourhood where wealth and family name is power, Marcie and Keisha meet and become entangled in a web of lies and deceit surrounding their rich husbands.

It took me ages to get through this book because the first two thirds were incredibly dull and the story just didn’t seem to be going anywhere. Finally, the plot began to get interesting in the last hundred pages or so, but for me it was just too little too late.

A good point of this book, however, was the characters. Most of the main characters are very morally grey, or seem like bad people but you still end up rooting for them. I liked how there was no pre-established good person and bad person, and all the characters were in fact all as bad as each other and in same ways deserved what they got.

I also liked the way that the wealthy people were depicted and how the book highlighted how dependent on their money and reputation they are, as well as how quickly all of that can go down the drain.

Overall, a book with some good parts but just a bit disappointing for me.

I very much enjoyed this book! The ending packed a punch, although it did take a while to get there. I did like the hint of voodoo. Some southern stereotypes were definitely a part of the story, but there were relationships and events that went against those as well.

This is the first book I’ve read of Sarah’s although I do own 2 of her other books. I was super excited to receive an advanced copy of this book! The first 1/3 was meh for me, but I kept reading because I was just hoping for it to get better. It did get better and I definitely did want to see what happened but overall the book was just ok for me. It had some weird voodoo and magic vibes that I didn’t care for and I didn’t love the ending. I’m still glad I read it and I know lots of other people will love it. Thank you #netgalley and #williammorrow publishing for this advanced copy of #deadtoher

GO IN AS BLIND AS YOU CAN. I BEG OF YOU!
And for that reason alone-- this review will be short and sweet.

It took me two different times to actually sit down and finally get into Dead to Her. I'm not sure what happened, but my mood just wasn't letting me get into it. But I kept telling myself how much I enjoyed Sarah's other stories and her writing so I knew I could do it. I am SO glad that I pushed myself with this one because when I actually sat down and read through the first 3/4 chapters, I could not put the book down.

It had some elements that were far-feteched, of course. But the writing and the execution was A plus work. Sarah Pinbourough blows my mind with her 3rd person POV and her excellent story-telling.

Look, this book is out there. It's a trip. If you aren't used to things that take you out of your normalcy and comfort zone, this one might be un-enjoyable for you. I get that and I see it. But I liked it because it was a challenge. It was something that I went in blind to and ended up being completely caught off guard and it was awesome. I had a great time reading it and thankfully the end was not disappointing. It was all worth it.

I devoured this book. I love Sarah Pinborough's books, her writing style and creep factors just totally reel me in. I gave it a 4.5 but rounded down to four because I never seemed to be satisfied with the endings of most thrillers. I feel like they are usually rushed and there is stuff left unanswered and sadly, this bpok suffered from that in my opinion. But the story itself was great and kept me wanting more for sure.

The only review of this book that I read was very bad, so I went in with low expectations, and my expectations were met.

The exposition drags out for two thirds of the story, over 200 pages of dull domestic stuff. No intricate web of social elite drama and hidden secrets, no devious woman trying to keep her husband in line with psychological manipulation, but we got like seven mentions of how Marcie isn't racist because she won't treat Keisha nicely like others.

The actual mystery wasn't bad, but not worth reading through all those dull chapters of exposition. The relationships were all so inconceivable and badly written. No one had any genuine emotions for another person, or if the did they showed it through being attracted to a third party?

This would've been way better if it was 200 pages or so with only quarter of it as exposition.

In the South, money and status mean a lot. Marcie Maddox is the 2nd wife to a successful attorney, Jason. Her Jason's boss returns from a trip to Europe with a very young, very beautiful new wife and Jason can't seem to keep his eyes off of her. Marcie becomes worried, but are things really as they seem?

This book is marketed as a "twisty psychological thriller", but the first 75% of the book was a little too slow-paced for me to call it that. There are a lot of sex scenes, too many for my own personal taste. Overall the story is interesting and the last 25% picks up quite a bit. Sarah Pinborough is the queen of WTF twists. I won't give anything away, but I liked what she did with one.

Dead To Her, Sarah Pinborough 3.5/5

Marcie Maddox has worked to get where she is, beautiful, wealthy, well known after an illicit affair elevated her into a strong position, but this life in Savannah isn’t all it appears to be and keeping the interest of husband Jason is harder than she realises. When Jasons boss brings home a young, attractive British wife from a holiday Mrs William Radford quickly usurps Marcia as the “beautiful second wife”

As the sparks start to fly in the Savannah heat, the gloves are pulled off and everyone will learn that revenge is best served cold.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #HarperCollins for my copy of this book!

This is a steamy, lusty summer read, perfect for relaxing in the sun with a cocktail. I LOVE the tale of a second wife, full of twists, turns and delicious betrayals.

Pour a cocktail, lie back and enjoy the thrill.
