Marcie isn’t the only second wife. When her husband’s business partner comes back from Europe with a much younger wife himself, Marcie starts to wonder about her own husband’s wandering eye. He’s got form.
So when Keisha and Marcie strike up a friendship that develops into something more, she realised that it can’t go any further. She’s got too much to risk. And it wasn’t Jason Keisha was after, it’s her.
They throw a huge Fourth of July party at Keisha’s mansion, but with Keisha off her Valium and her paranoid thoughts about ‘bad Juju’ resurfacing it’s a disaster, leading to her husband wanting her taken out of his will and filing for divorce. It’s no shock the next morning that he’s has a convenient heart attack and cracks his head after his morning treadmill run.
An investigation into embezzlement and attempted murder amongst a web of lies and deceit puts them all in the frame - but who was it??
What a brilliant read! It kept me enthralled right to the end and I loved the voodoo theme running through this. I wasn’t expecting half of what happened to happen and I loved all the unexpected twists and turns. Definitely one to give a go.

I was intrigued by this at first, but then it went on and on and on. Parts 1 and 2 were way too long. Parts 3 and 4 were better, but I was pretty checked out by that point.
The type of writing that takes us into the world portrayed in the book.
A tale of greed , avarice, superstition, superiority ..
The ongoing strife between aristocratic Southerners and mere mortals .
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.

Hard for me to get into this one. I keep thinking I'm gonna like this author but then I just struggle to get into the book. You be the judge and give it a read but it wasn't for me.
Compulsory readable so while you are reading it is fun, but then the ending is awful, and the more you think back on it, the worse it gets.
The atmosphere was actually creepy, and I like the representation but that's about it.
Also, the translation was weird in places, like, "Marcie barna árnyékolót kent a szemhájéra", when we all know the shadow here is not "árnyék" but rather "festék", "pigment" or something...

Ooof, this book was not what I was expecting. The story of this book was all over the place and was more of a smut read than a thriller read. This book is a domestic thriller involving prestigious families, black voodoo magic, a female female romance, and just a whole host of unlikable characters.

Dead to Her is my first Sarah Pinborough book, though I do have Cross Her Heart on my shelves to read. I love a page turning thriller and Dead to Her reads so much faster than the 400 pages it encompasses.
Set in Savannah, Georgia, William Radford IV brings home his new, very young, and beautiful wife. Mr. Radford had been away on sabbatical after the death of his first wife. His new wife, Keisha, is thrust into his wealthy, formal, judgmental, and older friend circle.
Marcie Maddox is the second Mrs. Jason Maddox and she is accustomed to being the young, enviable second wife. When Jason seems entranced by Keisha, Marcie remembers that "once a cheat, always a cheat" and is determined to maintain her place as Mrs. Maddox.
Secret pasts surround these two couples and they will all do whatever it takes to maintain their social standing, even as it all starts to crumble.
Dead to Her is a domestic thriller with Southern Gothic vibes. I definitely need to pick up more books that are set in the South.

I think Sarah Pinborough is fast becoming one of my favourite thriller authors!
Dead to Her is set amongst the high society of Savannah, Georgia and follows two women who become second wives to men in the society. Prior to the start of the book, Marcie Maddox fell for her husband Jason while he was still married to first wife Jacquie, but managed to snag him away and has been trying to settle into life among the rich ever since. Being the youngest wife by far and the only second wife hasn't been easy for Marcie, but there's no way she's going back to her old life.
But when Jason's business partner William marries a woman 40 years+ younger than him, less than a year after his first wife's death, their group of friends is rocked. Not only is the woman barely 22 years old, she's a black English woman and it seems as though she's caught of the eye of Jason...
I loved this book from the very first page. The synopsis makes it seem as though it's a typical thriller about a woman fighting against a love rival for the attention of some boring man, but not the case here! I was not expecting this twisty-turny dark story, full of likeable and unlikeable characters with hidden secrets and ulterior motives. Every new book I read by Sarah Pinborough, I think 'wow this is my favourite book by her so far', then another comes and takes it place.
Such a great thriller, it definitely kept me on my toes. Watch out for this book when it's released!

Real talk: I started this one in December and I DNF’d it. It just didn’t pull me in. Then on February 11th, this one came out and some trusted recommendation sources gave it glowing reviews. So I decided to try it on audio, and I really did end up enjoying it. I did have the killer figured out fairly early, but that didn’t take away from the book as a whole. Having gone to college in Savannah, I certainly saw some of the wealthy elite that this book portrayed. It definitely brought me back to my time in Savannah while I truly loved!
This was my first read from Sarah Pinborough and I listened
