Hmm. Not sure how I feel. Thoughts in this vlog: https://youtu.be/06MSOkXwHYA

This was disappointing. It was too long, tried to be too complex and came off as convoluted, and it was pretty boring. I should have DNFd but I was hoping that I’d start to enjoy it as it went on.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and the author of this book for the opportunity to read the arc in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. Although I found it lagging at the start, the story manages to slowly drag you in until you're caught and wanting to read on to know what happens next. The idea of the jealous wife at the start kind of bothered me but Pinborough was able to play on that and completely switch it to something I wasn't expecting.

I liked the aspect of the voodoo and assumed curses that played out and the battle to figure out who really did it.

I'm a big fan of Pinborough's work so I already expected to enjoy this book and I'll definitely be recommending it to friends and such to preorder and read it for themselves. Although I do prefer some of Pinborough's other books to this I still believe that it was a fun and gripping read.

Previously, I’ve read Pinborough’s BEHIND HER EYES (loved it)and I have several of her earlier horror fiction titles to read as well. I truly enjoyed my time with this book. The author proves that complex characters, multi-threaded story lines, and the ability to tell a damn good story are all sharply honed skills; she wields them well.
Marcie and Keisha are by far my favorite characters here. Straight on, they are developed and interesting, but that’s just the surface. There is a host of people I loved to dislike in this book and there’s quite an array of diversity.
Sex, intrigue, and hidden pasts make this book come alive. There are quite a lot of threads to keep straight; I think they’re pulled together nicely at the end. Pinborough remains a favorite author. Read this book, be prepared to clutch your pearls, and grab a stiff drink. This is a fun one.
