Good enough, I guess. Well written, entertaining, rather unbelievable.

This book was kind of a mess. I expected much more... It really just never came together.
A smart and at times, very funny mystery. Preferred it to Case Histories.
The second Jackson Brodie story was a little more difficult for me to follow at times but Ms. Atkinson is a master story teller and the best I've read at multiple story lines going at the same time that converge at the end of the story. I've already started the third in the series.

I quite enjoyed Jackson Brody in [b:Case Histories|16243|Case Histories (Jackson Brodie #1)|Kate Atkinson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1558363159l/16243._SY75_.jpg|18001], but in this one he is annoying. Angsty, insecure, and very dissatisfied with his dream life in his French villa. I liked Tatiana and Gloria, I liked Martin (until his deep dark Russian secret is revealed) and I loved the way that things were interconnected and layered, which I think is a specialty of Atkinson. But honestly, I 100% stand by Originally I had this at 2 stars because I was remembering the dragging of Jackson and the weirder parts of Martin, but then I remembered Gloria and Tatiana's plot lines, especially the endings, and I added an extra star for them. They were a 5 star story.
Spoiler
Julia dumping Jackson. I'd have dumped him too.

There was a surprising amount of animal/pet death and abuse that I was utterly unprepared for. All of it seemed very unnecessary and really made me question why Kate Atkinson felt the need to include it at all. It felt rather distasteful.
