i love the way Kate Atkinson tells a story. there is, of course, a delicious, very intricate plot, but it is here characters the move the plot along. and her characters are always a bit wacky. the author seems to have so much fun telling us about they're back story.

Good story, engaging characters. Would not have listened to if I'd known it was abridged, wish these would be marked more clearly.

This one had a little more humor and shenanigans than the first one and although there were a bunch of different characters and story lines going on it was easy to keep track of everything and everyone. The characters were all pretty interesting too and it was cool to get a glimpse inside all of their heads.

There was some mystery, some violence, some romance, a little bit of heartache, and humor. The story was well paced and the "surprise" ending brought it full circle and tied everything together in a neat little bow.

I'm looking forward to reading the next one!

4 hours into the audible version, I'm bailing on this story. Too many characters, so mundane, no connection to any story that I can tell so far.

it was an interesting story and i really liked the characters, especially liked the ending. but it seemed unnecessarily wordy and long-winded at times.

After witnessing and attempting to stop an assault, Martin gets pulled into a world that he normally only wrote about. Jackson Brodie is in Edinburgh but a little adrift as he tries to find what his place in this world and an unsolved murder is exactly what he needs to anchor him once more. As the novel progresses, the connections between the characters is cleverly revealed while the peril they are in starts to increase. A clever piece of fairly cozy crime that leaves no thread unpicked.
