I planned to read this during my holiday in Austria, so I was very surprised to finish it on the train there, having started it the day before on the coach to London.

It's a beautiful book. The nature and freedom described in the early sections filled me with wonder and joy, wanting to explore this wilderness myself. The events of the latter half filled me with sorrow. I should have expected that, it's about the natives of North America, so hearing about the deforestation, dispossession and "re-education" of the land and people was something that was going to be coming. It tore my heart out.

Beautiful, though it felt a bit anthropological or ethnographical at times rather than a story, or literary, or poetic. I wish it had been longer!
