descriptionSuper hot cover that is visually pleasing (HaHa). Good Composition and use of space. Typography is simple (two different fonts used) but well balanced. A small tagline that lets you know this is the first book in the series. Quite a good representation of one of the main characters in the book.description

descriptionSo WOWZA was this book good! Dark. Twisted. Fucked up. Well-Written. Nicely Paced. One HELL of a cliffhanger.

In this first episode, the author introduces up to Dylan and Rip. Painting a picture of their separate but equally dark and painful backgrounds. I felt in this episode of the series we got to know Dylan a little more than Rip. I am sure in upcoming episodes that the layers that make up the man Rip is will be slowly peeled away. Both characters hold so much potential and it has me gnawing at the bit to get episode two in my hands.

Not much more to say really. I straight up LOVED it.description

Title: Ripple Effect
Author: Keri Lake
Category: Romance, Dark
Series or Standalone: Series, Episode 1
Word Count: 30.000
POV: Dual POV
Plot:

HEA: Not telling

OMG! What a fantastic start to the series of episodes! I love Keri Lake's writing and this book has to be one of my favorites ever.
Seventeen year old Dylan cannot wait to get out of her adoptive family's home. Her life with her aunt and her husband is hell. Pills are the only means of escape she has. She is abused, she is barely living and she wants out.
When fate brings her face to face with a seasoned killer, her life and heart is at stake.
Rip is a killer. It's all he knows. Kindness had been forced out of him from a young age. When his mission is disrupted by a young woman, he does something that is out of character for him; he will choose life over death.
Two lives will become entwined in this deliciously dark and addictive book! Fast paced, refreshing and filled with properly fleshed out, well developed characters, this book is for everyone who is looking for something unique and well written.
Rip is a mystery I crave to uncover and Dylan is a heroine that I find relatable and strong. I cannot wait to dive into the next episode!
I cannot recommend this enough!

Bravo! Keri Lake has outdone herself with this series! What a genius storyline! What an amazing anti-hero that captivates you and frustrates you at the same time!
I loved how the author worked on our characters' pasts and how she slowly unveils Dylan's damaged spirit while unraveling Ripley's need for pain!
The chemistry sizzles and the entire book feels like a battle against time! I desperately want for Dylan to get everything she wants and at the same time I don't want to see her part from Rip. The dynamic of their relationship is out of this world!!!
Word of warning, this book deals with addiction and other sensitive subjects, so beware of this before you dive in. Darkness at its finest!
If this is your thing, read it!

I remember why I don't read serials until they're almost complete. The problem is it is incomplete . So I'm just basically reviewing some chapters. And yeah, it was an interesting couple of chapters, so I guess I'll wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds.

"Every decision you make affects every moment that follows, Dylan, It's like a ripple effect. Choose wisely."

Dylan is a down on her luck. She has lived a horrible life and experienced unendurable horrors at the hands of her uncle.
When the situation escalates, she has to get out quickly, becoming homeless with her dog and a young foster child she rescues.

Rip is a hardened hit man, he is a bad man, made bad by killing badder people. He is an artist and is an expert in his craft.
Although he didn't quite count on Dylan. She was an extra, supposed to have been disposed of, yet something made Rip 'rescue' her in his own way, and let her go, even though she saw too much.

Dylan needs money and a second chance at life, so she goes back to Rip, knowing that he is dangerous, that her life is in danger, but it would be, anyway, whether with him or without.

This first book sets the scene, gives Dylan's back story and glimpses into Rip's, as well as throwing the main characters together, knowing both their lives are about to be changed.

5 BUTTERFLY STARS

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books

Preface: This review covers all four episodes in this series. I'm trying to be as vague as possible and to keep it spoiler-free so that those who haven't read all episodes yet can enjoy the full experience.

Sometimes I like to venture into the darker corners of my mind with the help of a super talented author. When I hear Keri Lake has a new book coming out I'll hand over the reins and let her take me out of my comfort zone. I trust her to make me squirm uncomfortably...and still have a good time.

Dylan is only a few weeks away from her 18th birthday and it can't come quick enough. At the hand of her uncle she suffers unmentionable abuse which she only bears in a drugged up stupor and barely remembers what happened afterwards. Her mother died of a drug overdose, or that's what authorities want her to believe, and her father committed suicide. Dylan's only tether to a semblance of normalcy and the one being she cares most about is her dog Charlie. After another horrific experience with her uncle she has had enough and flees the filthy apartment. Having no money to get by is a problem so what's a girl to do?

Ripley is a hitman for one of the mob families competing for power in Chicago. When he follows one of his targets he observes a girl getting into the car of the man he is supposed to kill. He saves her from being raped and killed...and is bemused. Rip doesn't *save* people. He tortures them, makes them beg for a merciful death without remorse. This girl, though, is an enigma to him. She is innocent and yet she isn't, she is naive and still streetwise. Ripley doesn't need witnesses yet he sends her off on her way...but...he can't stop thinking about her. So what's a guy to do?

If you think loving a man like Rip is impossible let me tell you - it isn't. In some twisted logic Keri Lake makes you believe that this cold blooded, obviously psychopathic killer is deep down a good man. He is ruthless, twisted, charismatic and single minded in his focus on his target. Dylan brings out the tender feelings inside of him he didn't think he had. Is he gentle with her? Far from it. Their love is raw, violent and volatile.

And as much as I fear that my demons will ultimately tear her apart, the disturbing reality is, they’d probably get drunk with hers and have a fucking orgy together.

Dylan is a contradiction of naiveté and experience, innocence and jadedness, toughness and vulnerability. She fascinates the cruel Ripley and soon he finds himself entangled in a relationship with an expiry date. The more time he spends with her the more he obsesses about her and the more possessive he gets. And can I say he is HOT? Because, damn, he is!

“This is what fascinates me about you. Doesn’t matter that you’re tied to a bed in a basement, facing all variety of gruesome outcomes, you never lose that spitfire attitude.”

Dylan is probably my favorite heroine by Keri Lake as of yet. She is strong with enough softness, sweetness and vulnerability to make her relatable. She has a youth about her that belies the darkness inside her. I don't think I would have survived the atrocities she experienced in her young life. Together Dylan and Rip are explosive but if you look closely there is a gentle side to their relationship that comes unexpected. I adored how they took care of each other, how these two broken souls fell in love and made sense despite their darkness.

Merciless and merciful. Wild and broken. He’s a raging fire, with the inclination to destroy whatever gets in his path, and I’m nothing but a small scrap of kindling. Yet the way he stares at me with such reverence, makes me feel like I’m the one holding the match.

Keri Lake's gritty writing is flawless as usual. She tackles a very real and uncomfortable subject and passes with flying colors. The mood is intense. Sinister, brutal and raw and not for the faint of heart, yet in the end you'll find yourself deeply in love with a brutal killer and the love of his life.
If you haven't read a book by this author yet and love grungy and gritty tales I urge you to pick up one of her stories. You won't regret it.

IT'S LIVE: AMAZON

Ripple Effect:Noun 1. a spreading effect or series of consequences caused by a single action or event.

Single action: READ THIS MOTHERFUCKING BOOK.

Consequences: Nails gone. Cry a river with Charlie. My sanity ripped out of my hands. Fall in love with an anti-hero. Get my heart broken with the hand Dylan was dealt in life.

Days of darkness make me smile
No one's safe here for a while
Say you're happy, yeah, for real
Come to my side, got time to kill.

Freak of mother, nature's game
I could blame her for my brain
Oh, oh, oh, oh...

Freak of nature by Broods

"A charming motherfucker with a gun. That's me."

Born in depravity, Ripley, RIP, has become a killer. A murderer. A Freak of nature.

She shines in a world full of ugliness
she matters when everything is meaningless.

Fragile...
he doesn't see her beauty
she tries to get away
sometimes
it's just that nothing seems worth saving
I can't watch her slip away

The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails

Dylan has watched him for months. She doesn't know who he is but he intrigued her enough to make of him a habit. A pattern of her life.

"I've been hurt in ways that have forever changed my landscape and numbed me to future pain."

Being handed a ridiculously sad hand in life, Dylan has been through a lot of shit. Pills are her only escape.

description

So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck twelve
Well make sure to build your house brick by boring brick
Or the wolf's gonna blow it down.

Brick by Boring Break by Paramore.

One night. Survival. One decision. Survival. A moment.

Will lead her to a series of consequences. A RIPPLE EFFECT .

3 BOOKS! That's the number of books I have read from Keri Lake. But the times she has made my heart stop is infinite. With just 3 books, Keri Lake has become an automatic "one'click" author for me. There is just something about Keri's writing that holds me captive.

Rippled Effect: Episode 1 pulled out all the stops...left me twisted up in knots, my heart in my throat...never knowing which way was right or wrong...and then gave me hope just to tear it out of my hands in one second.

Ripley & Dylan was a pair of flawed characters that pull at each one of my heart strings without even trying...good or bad, right or wrong...I don't care. They have my black heart in their hands.

Deliciously twisty, dark and I dare to say erotic. Keri Lake just gave us a taste of what's to come with this short but intense first episode. It ends in a I-will-die-if-I-don't-read-the-next-book-ASAP kind of cliffy.

You have been warned.
