A step back but I think that's because it's a bunch of short stories and not one long arc. Still look forward to volume 4.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE VOLUME OF GWENPOOL SO FAR totally excluding the holiday special at the end which was garbage!

Pros:
-Hastings's writing is wonderful, even though each issue is a totally different story instead of the usual full arc
-Gurihiru is the best artist team in the business
-everything is still ridiculous but hilarious
-the cameos in this one include: Blade, Robbie freaking Reyes, Kate Bishop, and DEADPOOL
-need I say more?

Cons:
-the entire "holiday special" was cringey and painful because it was written by Ryan North and everything about it sucked
-there were 1 or 2 issues where other artists were used

So this would have been a 5 star rating but the last issue really ruined it. If it wasn't in there, then this would be a perfect volume. But if you want to laugh, you should definitely pick this up.

I'm a Christopher Hastings fan and I enjoy his work even when I don't get all the references since I'm not following the larger Marvel universe.

Bit of a grab-bag, this one. Rather than tell one larger story, this volume includes a bunch of smaller ones, which makes them have a little less of an impact. Fun to see Galactus as Santa and The Punisher wearing hotpants, but as a whole...not as good as the previous ones.

The first half was really good. Lots of fun and great cameos/ team ups, but the last couple of chapters were pretty pointless. The last chapters revolved around different holiday traditions, and by different I mean made up. It was pretty boring stuff that I found myself skimming it, especially since it had nothing to do with what seems to be a developing story line. I liked that for a second it was getting kind of serious, but to see that all dropped for pointless, random chapters was like, "come on!." So definitely not the best volume, but hoping for better with the next one!

Wacky, meta fun and possibly the best volume so far. This series always delivers a delightful range of cameos, and that trend does not stop here. Additionally, one of the central stories - laden with references to traditional RPG games - is just kind of amazing. Plus - Gwenpool meets the one character I've most waited for her to encounter, and it's just about everything I could have hoped for. Hijinks, hilarity, and heart - I love this series.

Postscript - the holiday special mashup was hit and miss over its relatively short span. Parts were still pretty great, parts were just kind of weird, and the Red Skull episode basically missed the mark entirely. But I've learned to only expect so much from guest writers and special episodes so, disregarding the faults of the holiday stories, this volume is pretty great.
