This was an interesting idea about where humanity might go. It left some unanswered questions about the fate of humanity and a plot hole or two but overall it was a nice little story.

I like Joshua Dalzelle's writing style and many many of his books are a win for me. This one was written well, but, like other books that involve only human factions (no alien or external conflicts) the way that the humans treat each other is just so mean/extreme that it becomes nonsensical. I had a similar issue with the excellent Expansion Wars Trilogy. Those books are great but the level of evil those human factions are guilty of is so extreme it almost undermines the entire plot. I had to rate this one lower because of that insanity between the members of the crew and that fact that there are some moments here that aren't coherent enough to fit with the rest of the story. I am, however very excited to get back to the Black Fleet Trilogy and the new installment of Omega Force.

Variety is the spice of life

I honestly didn't even read the synopsis before picking this up. It's by Joshua so I'm gonna read it. I even found myself asking where the mil-scifi was gonna pop up. Pretty much no where. But it's a good thing! Very smooth backstory filling for how fast the reader has to get caught up on things. I maybe would tone back the "all the women are hot" bits. It's not over the top by any means but just a couple more unnecessary descriptions and it'd get weird.

All in all I'd say this is a definite pick up if you want a thrilling ride that's an easy uncomplicated read.

I just couldn't take the stupidity of the characters. No rational discussion, no real planning... just interpersonal bullsh*t. If they were at a party, I'd just shrug, but they were fighting for their lives.

I was too frustrated to continue.

It's okay, but predictable story. A ship returns to Earth after traveling to another star. Between being in status and time distilation only 8 years have passed, but 800 years have passed on Earth. Of course, the astronauts return to an Earth that is primitive, and they have to struggle to survive. The characters are pretty much sketches, not full blooded individuals, so you don't really care as they are picked off one by one.

Very entertaining book. Its always so hard to give a good review right after finishing a book, I feel like I need time to digest it. That being said this is a people out of time not time travel, they were sent to a distant planet traveling at relativistic speed and back so when they return over 1000 years has passed. The adventure really gets going once they are on earth.

Painfully poorly written. Awkward dialog, unbelievable characters and character interaction. It was a labor to finish.
