After quite a few sci-fi novellas in this collection, I was glad to jump into a fantasy world for a change. The story is set in a somewhat typical fantasy world, but it had a few unique touches that made it interesting. I hate overpowered protagonists in general, so I really liked the protagonist in this book from that perspective and that he never got arrogant or did stupid things to move the story along.

Speaking of the story, it was a bit underwhelming, although the first part was pretty good. I just don't think this author is that great a story teller. She's a good writer and good at building believable characters, but her stories tend to be slow and quite uninspired. I enjoyed this one for the most part though, mostly because of the good character conflicts.
