The Twilight Zone episode that this is based on is one of my favorites. I loved this little story.
PS. I too am dependent on my glasses :-)

I love this short story. It is the perfect mix of tragic despair and fleeting hope. The main character's desire to simply spend his time consuming books (doing what he wants to do) is incredibly relatable.
When his dream is finally achievable, he is rendered unable to see, blind and injured and alone in this horrific post-apocalyptic scene.

I swear I've heard another variation of this story, or a story with a similar twist ending. But this was a fun little story that you can hear in a couple weeks on the AIC Stories Podcast over at aicstories.com!
