I had to DNF this book. I didn't get much far in, but the main character's perfection was something that annoyed me from the very first chapter. Maybe it's for someone else, but I am not one to enjoy books about 'perfect' main characters. I like some depth, something more complex about the main characters I'm reading about and having someone without that, that is viewed as some sort of award on the pedestal from the very start (by the way she's described and by the way other characters around her view her), is something that just doesn't work for me, personally.

This book takes some time to get used to. Steel puts a lot of detail into every sentence, with every sentence depicting a new piece of information. In some instances there is no link between the two sentences. It's information overload. To add to that Steel freely changes perspectives frequently.

The second half was easier to read, either because I've had 210 pages of experience with her style of writing or because I'm 210 pages more invested in the story!

DNF. Abandoned at 15% because I couldn't take another mention of Crystal's "amazingness" or "beauty" or how she was in love with a guy she met once and who was twice her age. (Shudder)

This was such a poignant read. It left me devastated and I cried so much, but in the end, as is characteristic of all Danielle Steel books, I was battered and yet a new person. I was inspired to move on, chase my dreams despite the small and big problems that will inevitably come my way. It taught me never to give up.
