The plot to We Used To Live Here seems as if the story will be paranormal as in “haunted house”, but it surprised me and ended up taking a different turn. The story starts right up with the introduction of the family showing up on Charlie and Eve’s doorstep. After that, the story unfolds quite quickly, but still maintains suspense and mystery without feeling rushed. I had to take a break to research the morse code during the bonus chapters, because it dawned on me by the time I was 75% done with the book that those symbols and code might actually mean something LOL.
In my opinion, I think the book could have used at least another 100 pages because while the ending is gut-wrenching and seemingly open-ended, I was left wanting a little more from the story and from the main character. I wanted to know ifit was really Charlie that called Eve beckoning her back to the house or if it was a trap, or if Jenny disappeared for that long ass time because she stumbled into another reality/dimension . Do I think the book was overhyped by the internet? Yes. Did i enjoy the book? Absolutely and I would recommend it to a friend if they want a quick, spooky read.
