ok i loved this. i feel like it was a bittttt slow at first but once weird things started happening it was so interesting. i loved the documents and whatnot between chapters. it was fun to decode the morse code scattered throughout. this book has a whole ARG connected to it, the websites mentioned in the book are real, it’s all just so fascinating. i am not tech savvy or smart enough to figure out everything, but the OldHouseArchives subreddit has been working on decoding everything and interpreting clues given by the archivists. LOVE that there’s a “real life” extension of the book. so cool.
at one point reading the book, i was scared enough to have to turn on my lights and go into a room where other people were. it’s a more subtle horror, knowing something is wrong but not sure what. BIG enjoy.

Another “booktok sent me here” read. This one actually paid off though! I really enjoyed the audiobook. It was a fantastic listen that had me trying to listen as often as I could to find out what was going on with the house and this strange family that wouldn’t leave.
My audiobook included a pdf of the map, so I didn’t feel like I missed out on that, but the audio doesn’t ever bring “closure” to the Morse code that happens throughout (I found out about that message from a comment on another review).
That being said, I really liked this story. I was a little afraid it was going to lose me at the ending (especially seeing some comments talk about feeling like they were missing something or that they didn’t understand what happened), but I think it ended in a great, scary/creepy way that worked wonderfully with the overall story.
This might actually be one of my top reads of the year!

This is so reminiscent of House of Leaves to me. And if I'm correct, there were even a couple of little Easter eggs nodding to House of Leaves. This was so good. I finished it in almost 1 sitting. I just didn't want to put it down. I wasn't sure how to feel towards the end (around the second to last chapter), but it reeled me right back in. This was such a good book. If you're seeing this and haven't read it, go read it right now
