This was a really informative and helpful book overall, but it did get repetitive. After a while, I felt like the lessons learned was just the same lesson over and over. I also felt sometimes the author was intentionally shallow when talking about international events so as to not clearly take a side. I still am glad I read it because it's been helpful to my own religious exploration.

I snagged this on a whim from a Libro fm sale over the winter holidays. I needed something to consume as an audiobook, given some other things going on in my schedule. What I had hoped to be an introductory primer to the Jewish holiday cycle delivered on that and much more. I appreciated the seeking nature of the author and her eagerness to learn about her faith with a depth that she didn't have growing up. For those just curious about Judaism, it's presented with reasonable accessibility, the spectrum of religious interpretation and the chapters follow the calendar year structure. Listening makes the Hebrew come to life and helps with the hesitation that I often have with names, places, etc that trip me up in some fantasy/sci-fi novels. Coming from a Christian background, it was also impactful to parse which holidays have been celebrated since the ministry of Jesus and to draw parallels as Judaism and Christianity have grown and evolved from that point in history.
