Krieg der Welten: Roman

H.G. Wells

3.6 AVERAGE

Interesting enough, but not quite as scary as I thought it would be, given its reputation and the introduction.

A little disappointed in this as the great Simon James loves H.G. More potboiler-y than expected.

Funny to have it so London focussed, which brought an age to it, odd to have sci-fi in a fin-de-siecle diction / setting, playing into the Darwinian, colonialist, and other themes.

The type characters / archetypes of the priest and artillery man were fairly thin.

Just thought this would be something i loved, and it was a little bit meh. But fun to read in Montenegro and good holibobs read.

I really wish I had liked this more than I did. I didn’t hate it but I just didn’t love it.

I may have set my expectations too high based on what I know about the story. It has everything I enjoy in a book - dystopian world, apocalyptic type survival, aliens, great imagery, etc. but by the end of the book I was so ready to be done with it.

It was written in the 1890s which tells me this was way ahead of its time and I can see how people would love this but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Need to listen to the radio broadcast to see how I like that.

Such a dull and repetitive plot, no characters you really care about so stakes don't feel high, only purpose it serves is a historically significant step for scifi
