Wow! The book Order of the Phoenix is immensely better than the movie. I know there are time restraints on them, but the movies fail to capture so much of the character development - especially of the side characters. (And it’s weird that the longest book has the second shortest movie adaptation…)

Parts of this one are annoying to read as you are following a moody 15 year old boy who is dealing with a
mind connection with the dark lord
so his mood swings are A LOT. 😅 (Understandably so!)

I have unanswered questions about
what exactly happened with Sirius and “the veil” / curtain room in general.

It’s heartbreaking to know that if Harry had just used the mirror instead of floo powder to talk to Sirius, he may not have suffered the same fate. 🥺

And of course we’re reminded that the Department of Mysteries has the ability to meddle with time…. So many questions/plot holes there…. I know all the time turners are smashed so they can’t use them AFTER this, but no one could come up with a time-related plan to stop Voldemort before this? Dumbledore casually let 3rd-years use a time turner to save Sirius, yet he wouldn’t mess with time to stop the dark lord?? 🤔🤔🤔

I also start to disagree with Dumbledore in this book. In Goblet of Fire he says “It is my belief that the truth is generally preferable to lies.” (This is one of many great Dumbledore quotes!❤️) Yet in Order of the Phoenix he says
”I cared more for your happiness than your knowing the truth.”
Which is a sentiment I understand, but wholeheartedly disagree with.

**spoiler** Angsty Harry was rough to read. Then Angsty Harry + rage grief was worse. **spoiler**

Really enjoyed finally seeing more and learning about Neville Longbottom. Neville's consistent courage as been around since Sorcerer's Stone has always been admirable as Neville typically stands up to and for his friends whereas Harry typically stands up to strangers. Also witnessing Neville's daring and determination grow, alongside his increase in pride for himself and his parents related to D.A. and Order of the Phoenix was the original bit of magic that is The Harry Potter series that is lost with all the whining from Harry.

As a huge Harry Potter fan, I particularly love the insight into the anti-Voldemort group the Order of the Phoenix after Voldemort’s return in the previous book as, of course, this is going to be Harry’s main concern as opposed to his school work. Giving both parts of the Wizarding world equal time in this story, rather than just his school life, is interesting as a fan and also helps set up the direction of the rest of the series. I do find this book quite hard to read/listen to in places due to the difficulties my favourite characters face throughout.

My blood was bowling. So many frustrations. I actually felt like a teenager again. What they went through is relatable, not the killing ofcs. Love, rebellion, fear, stress, grief, etc

I cried when our good dog was killed.

I was frustrated. I felt it all.

I was glad finally at the end of the book we received some form of closure. We needed it so badly.

Another happy part is how the twins stayed true to themselves. I finally understood and saw how important they are and how much I love them.

I don't believe I will ever hate a character as much as I did that pink evil twat.

The adults frustrated me yet I could understand them and agreed they were mostly right.

So many things could be avoided with better communication.

Also...that prophecy...how horrible..
It could have been Marcel Lubbermans. Marcel is such a wonderul and growing character in the books.

Lastly I love how the order of the phoenix stood up for Harry against the Duffelingen. Finally someone speaks up.
