As a Miles fan, I loved this. The mystery is interesting but you do need to keep in mind this is a younger age book. The art is great and some scenes are so beautiful. I also love the Easter eggs in the background, like the Moonknight video and the Nelson and Murdock ad.

A good, quick read. Only complaint was it moved very fast.

Overall, 3.5 ~ 4/5? Still good, love Miles and how he was written as a teen of today.

Perfect for a middle-grade reader who's a fan of the other Morales comics or the Spider-Verse movie. The comic isn't an origin story by a long shot, so it requires the reader to have some context of Miles's world, but the plot is otherwise self-contained. The art is adorable and reminiscent of the animation style used in the Spider-Verse movie - all of the character designs are unique and distinct, even for the background characters. The plot was very simple and some aspects of it annoyed me a bit (even with the understanding that this is for younger readers) but it was cute and I still had a fun time reading, overall.

The plot is a bit simplistic, and the moral (balancing relationships and other responsibilities) needed more fleshing out. The characters are diverse and well-written and I was glad to see cameos of Kamala/Ms. Marvel and Doreen/Squirrel Girl. The art was unfortunately quite blurry in my advanced electronic copy, but seemed vibrant. Shock Waves is a little boring, but a decent story overall, especially for younger readers. 2.5 stars

Thank you so much to the publisher for providing me with this eARC via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review!
