The review is here!!!!

This book was definitely better than the first one. It was more fast-paced, there was always something happening and there was a lot of relationship drama. I still think Meghan is a fucking child but now we have more characters (spoiler: a lot of them die) that take the focus out of her, which is good.

Ash was a complete drama queen and a jerk but I love him.
Puck was the weak one on the love triangle and he did the "I'll wait you forever if I have to" trick but nah man, you're not gonna get it. He's still pretty cute tho.
IRONHORSE I LOVED HIM HE WAS THE COMIC RELIEF AND I'M SO GLAD KEEP TALKING IN CAPS LOCK PAL
Can we talk about the three phoukas we see here???? Because they are so cute and if they're not a race made up by the author I want to read more books with phoukas. Please.

There were like A LOT of different races and sometimes it would say something like "a kjashkjsahdksja came out of the woods" and I'd be like "oooohhhh... right... let's wait for the description of the thing" and all it said was that it was black and fast like YOU'RE NOT HELPING JULIE
THE WINTER BALL SCENE HELLO????? THAT WAS AMAZING. YES TO COMING BACK TO YOUR AVERAGE NON-MAGIC WORLD. YES, PLEASE.

I think that's all???? This was so short I'm sorry

I'm a little annoyed with myself for how much I like this book and series. My rational brain is telling me not to like it because of how played out the love triangle is in YA fantasy, and then it combines that with the whole star-crossed lovers' trope. There's also the entire aspect that Meghan is completely enthralled with the guy trying to kill her because who cares, "I love him!" I want to hate it for all of these reasons, yet I am so entertained by the story that I don't care. For me, how entertained I am by a book is everything. I love the inclusion of the Iron Fey to represent the modern world, and I always want to know what happens next in the story. I'm definitely going to keep reading the series.

I liked this book, I suppose. I just find the lead characters incredibly infuriating with the decisions they make. Meghan bothers me to the point of frustration, but that is the case with most lead heroines. Basically they fall in love with the distant, tortured, 'inhumanly' beautiful boy and screw over their best friend who is usually the better more sincere person. Perhaps I'm just biased to the characters like Puck or Simon in Mortal Instruments or Jem in Infernal Devices.

My main complaint is that I feel like the titles of the chapters sometimes give away way too much, there were several times that I knew what would happen just based on this. But maybe that's just me. All and all, I'll keep on keeping on, I've already started the next book so we'll see where it goes from there.

Really good sequel, lot of things happening. I seriously wish Ash and Meghan would just get together! Stupid laws haha. My favourite character of this series is Grim though. So smart and funny.
