a beautiful meditation on gender and fear. this graphic memoir borders on autotheoretical in its short page count, forcing the reader to consider the ways that they navigate the world in their gender and how they may be threatened by it. coupled with very unique art, this piece succeeded in what it was trying to say.

For this book, Vivek Shraya (also known for her poetry collection Even This Page Is White and the non-fiction book I'm Afraid of Men) teamed up with the fantastic illustrator and artist Ness Lee to create a book about her (Shraya) receiving threatening emails. But the book does not tell a straightforward story but really visualizes through the narration and the impactful art how you feel under such pressure. The colours are bold, often primary colours just slightly subdued, adding to the book's urgency. Death Threat shows what it might look like to be a woman online, to be trans online, to be a person of Colour online, to experience the intersections of these categories. The book documents Shraya's specific experience and creates something poetical, heart-wrenching, oddly beautiful.

The art is fascinating and the story very engaging but it was difficult to follow at first. The point of view changes but when it does it’s not clear. I liked this story but it is difficult to understand because of the POV issue.
