Quite frankly, I’m surprised by how much I liked this book. When I started, I had just gotten off reading some serious books so I wasn’t really adjusted to the whole high school drama genre and what not, but this captured “coming of age” so perfectly. And cutely. The character development is steady and thorough. I really didn’t think I was going to like either of the main characters at first, but the way that their relationship is built makes them grow on you. The plot was fairly simple, but like I said, the character development made the story as a whole rich and full of good morals, themes, and life lessons. I can’t wait to see what Julie Murphy has next for readers.

I wanted to love this book. But that just didn't happen for me. It was a cute, easy, quick read but it lacked the quirkiness of Dumplin that made me swoon.

Ok - I did not even realize this until coming to Goodreads to review: I had no idea Puddin' was the second book in a series. You do not need to read the first to get the second, but I do want to back and read the first.

The second book covers the stories of different characters. One, described as overwieght, is strong and admirable. The other, a stereotype we've all known. A consequence brings them together and they become friends. I love how Murphy teaches about feelings and respect through the eyes of these girls.

A high school read. I wish I had books like this when I was 16.

There's nothing *wrong* with this book; it's a good solid story, there are some nice themes, the characters are fun and interesting. However, I personally had no urge to get back to it; I wasn't desperate to know what happened next; I very easily could put it down to do something else.

I also didn't realise for several chapters that it had two POVs; my kindle wasn't showing the headers, and the voices weren't distinct enough for me. It wasn't until one narration mentioned 'that girl Willowdean' that I realised something was going on.

A good book, a good read, but sadly not a great one.
