I was given an ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.

I was intrigued by this book as soon as I saw that cover. YUM! I've also heard great things about this author but hadn't read anything by her yet.

I do have to say I was disappointed because the story felt a little anti-climactic. I was just expecting more from the Jake-Miranda-Hailey issue, but I was happy that Jake and Miranda talked things out like adults. Using miscommunication or not communicating at all to create or drag out issues makes me crazy, so it was nice to read a book where the adults actually acted like adults. There was great witty banter between the MCs, and I couldn't help but laugh. I also loved that Jake wasn't your typical pro athlete MC who just can't commit because how could he possibly give up all of the ladies who throw themselves at him?! And Miranda wasn't the typical poor me female MC who allows a rich guy to sweep her off her feet and fix all of her problems with his money. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more by this author.

Hooked is a standalone story from Brenda Rothert featuring a sexy hockey star and the woman who shakes up his life. I have read and enjoyed books by Brenda Rothert in the past, and I enjoyed Hooked as well. While I didn't absolutely love this story, I did like it.

Miranda is a housekeeper for a hotel, cleaning to pay her way through school. Jake is hockey's bad boy, stuck in a position of keeping the owner of his team happy by dating his daughter, even if it is forced. So when Jake meets Miranda and feels a connection to her, he knows that it is the worst possible timing. If he hopes to keep his job, he can't be caught with Miranda. But the more they get to know each other, the more their feelings grow. When Miranda finds out about Jake's "girlfriend" though, Jake will have to show Miranda that she is the only one he wants.

I liked Jake and Miranda, but this was definitely a case of insta-love. I did feel like they were cute together and I liked seeing them get to know one another. I definitely think that Jake handled things wrong at times though, especially when it came to Hailey. That chick was insane, and honestly the whole situation with her drove me nuts. I did like that Jake was put in his place at times by Miranda though, and I think that she was exactly what he needed. They had chemistry and were cute together, and besides things happening so fast and the stuff with Hailey, I enjoyed their story a lot.

Overall, this was a good book and there were a lot of things that I liked. The story itself was a bit predictable and didn't really break any new ground though. It felt like a lot of other contemporary romances I have read, so while I liked it I didn't love it. I think that if you are looking for something cute and sweet and easy to read, this is one worth giving a shot.

that one girl was a psycho...

Hooked was a book that I randomly found on my audible account. I guess I was going to read it for a specific challenge and just never got to it? Have no fear.. I dove into it for shits and giggles.

Now this is a hockey book.. which I was glad to volunteer for tribute just to listen to it. However, the characters were okay - boring but okay. The romance was aiight but nothing spectacular. The chemistry was there and obvious to anyone with eyes but I wasn't really invested into these two.

There was a psycho chick though.. and she was interesting enough.

Other than all of that, the ending was cute, adorable, and completely predictable. I'm glad that I randomly got this book one day and that I finally took a chance on it. If it was a series, well.. I might've dove into the next one. However, it isn't and I can move on with my life. Hooray!

I would (and will) definitely reread this book! It’s perfect for when you want a “quick” and easy (hockey) romance, because this book is so good!

This book was such a great read! I have just one more book to finish in order to meet my Goodreads goal after finishing this one. I'm not sure what or why I have an obsession with hockey romances.. but I like it. Almost enough to start watching actual hockey. And it helped that they lived in Chicago and my boyfriend is a Blackhawks fan!

I love that Jake was a bad boy, but not really. I love new adult novels but I hate the good girl/bad boy thing. It's too overdone. I really loved this story line and I kind of wished that it wouldn't end. After they got together, it felt a bit rushed to get to the ending. Or perhaps I feel that it was rushed since I'm rushing to meet my year end goal! Who knows. Either way, I enjoyed this book and can't wait for more Brenda books and hockey novels :-)

Loved that these two had baggage but it took a supporting role, not a major one. Refreshing!

“When I’m with you, everything else melts away. I don’t obsess about hockey or get irritated by anything. There’s just you, and that gorgeous smile I’m hooked on.”

I am disappointed that this book wasn't as hot as the cover. Hahahaha.
This was an enjoyable romance read.
Why do sports romance the hero always has to be asshole most of the time.
I hate it but I like it you know.

Hooked was very predictable but still very entertaining.
I enjoyed the humour part of the book so much.
The romance was so sweet and heartwarming.
I think I said awww too much.
I wanted more of side characters honestly, I think it could have been more fun.

We all know what was going to happen.
We were all just waiting for the CLIMAX to happen.
When it happen, I was honestly meh about it.
I wish the plotline was more dramatic you know.
After the issue happen, I felt like everything went by so fast after that and the book was just wrapping things up to bid farewell.

However, I still did enjoy the read and would read more of Brenda's work.

Loved it!

A cute story about a NHL player and a regular girl just trying to make ends meet, working as the housekeeper in the hotel he’s staying at temporarily. Winning her over is a challenge because she’s stubborn and has too much on her plate to worry about a player like him. Following their story was entertaining and fun. Highly recommend.

I randomly picked up a Brenda Rothert book last year, one of her hockey series. I loved that series. This book is no different. It was scorching. I loved both characters. Jake was a little hard to love in the beginning, but he quickly wormed his way into my heart just has he did to Miranda. It was a beautiful story.
