An actual masterpiece of graphic storytelling. Perfectly delivers on the premise, art work is stunning, characters are all stellar, truly one of the best things I’ve read all year
We follow a group of people stuck at an amazing vacation house by a lake after the world ends. They all have in common a friendship with the person or thing that brought them there, Walter. What ensues is snippets of each character in an unknown future discussing the past and the time at the house by the lake. It has an intriguing premise. It’s fun and breezy to read, with each issue leaving at a cliffhanger or revelation. My mind feels rattled with questions, and I’m scared of this one. The Nice House on the Lake is a great horror thriller and it’s off to a great start. What I find concerning is that it’s an ongoing series. This is Volume 1 and I’m concerned it won’t hit the landing on it’s ending. I hope everything is mapped out with the creators, I don’t want another LOST situation. But I digress on this little tirade and who am I kidding!? Give me Volume 2!
Now the art, I love the rough edges and muted color pallets of greens, blacks, & reds. Artist Álvaro’s work reminds me a bit of the dead space comics. I really dig those horror vibes and aesthetic that makes you feel isolated and on edge. Both works play and vibe with claustrophobia. High Praise!

Tense and scary! Most horror I read does not actually frighten me, and that's a very particular and personal note that isn't a strike against a book. I can enjoy things without being scared. But. Definitely a point in its favor. Tense, disorienting, nasty, and sharp.
This was... interesting. Started off sort of okeysh, was ready to give it three merciful stars and forget about it... and then it got interesting.
Honestly I am tempted to say it was great, but it really needs to stick the landing. But good job on getting the foundations done I guess...
Edit: I forgot to mention that the characters are just...ok. I sometimes forget who is who and stuff, but whatever...
