It's such a shame that someone who has helped humanity so much still remains mostly in anonymity throughout history. I've learned so much from this book but as well learned that the unknown in regards to this type of history is so far from over in my process of knowledge. I've heard rumors and didn't believe them but thanks to this book I was able to discover that those rumors aren't rumors but a reality. Humans have done so much damage to other humans and yet we are the smartest animal on earth. Could you imagine if we weren't?

I think I’m taking off half a star for the audiobook version, as the white narrator doing accents for other races didn’t always sit well with me personally.
The format of the book is weird and probably not for everyone. I have to admit I wasn’t sold when I first started reading it but the topic covered by the book is so fascinating on its own and the author clearly did her research that ultimately I couldn’t put it down. And I do think to the best of her ability, the author did the Lacks family justice in telling their story and making us think in depth about medical ethics.

Really good story. The book isn’t my favorite. Feels a bit disorganized and I feel like I got lost in the sauce. But idk, I feel like a story that should be heard.
